Changes to RAI Manual and MDS 3.0 Item Sets

Having a key understanding of the changes made to the RAI Manual to ensure accurate coding on the Minimum Data Set is critical to SNF quality efforts. Teresa Mota from Abt Associates provides a brief discussion of the IMPACT Act of 2014, why changes were made, and then an overview of the changes made to the RAI Manual and MDS 3.0 Item Sets which will become effective on October 1, 2019.

Measure Overview of Current SNF QRP Measures

With the addition of four new functional outcome measures in October 2018, the suite of quality measures for the SNF QRP has grown to 11 measures. Alice Smith from RTI International will review all 11 of the quality measures associated with the SNF QRP by defining stays and describing the quality measures and how they are calculated. There will also be some checks along the way to test your knowledge.

SNF QRP Reports Enhancements and Reports Case Study

Data should drive decisions, and it’s essential that your staff is aware of available data and how best to use it. Jennifer Pettis from Econometrica will review key SNF QRP reports and discuss how to navigate the CASPER website to obtain them, the purpose of the reports, and what data are available. Jennifer will then engage participants in a “hands-on” activity using a Case Study and fictitious SNF QRP reports to perform a quality improvement analysis.

Section GG: Functional Abilities and Goals (Part 1)

Anne Deutsch along with Manisha Dass from RTI International team up to present a thorough review of Section GG: Functional Abilities and Goals. By describing item intent, coding instructions, and definitions, they will prepare you to apply your knowledge to complex practice coding scenarios. Understanding how to code Section GG as well as information presented in the Sections A, I, J and O and PDPM: What is Changing (and What is Not) presentations will also prepare you for participating in the Integrated Coding and PDPM Case Study at the conclusion of Day 2.

Sections A, I, J, and O

Curious about how the changes in the SNF PPS affected Chapter 3 of the RAI Manual? Join Teresa Mota from Abt Associates as she describes the importance and intent of new and revised assessment items associated with the PDPM along with a few other changes made in these sections that were not related to payment. There will also be opportunities to practice knowledge application by coding clinical scenarios which will not only test your knowledge of these updates; but, in conjunction with the Section GG and PDPM: What is Changing (and What is Not) presentations, will prepare you for participating in the Integrated Coding and PDPM Case Study at the conclusion of Day 2.

Patient Driven Payment Model: What is Changing (and What Is Not)

This is the training you’ve been waiting for! The PDPM is the most extensive revamp of the SNF PPS in twenty years. It is essential that SNF providers understand the differences between the old and new payment systems and what policies have actually not changed under the PDPM. Join John Kane as he expertly guides you through the transition to and description of the new payment model, pointing out it’s efficiencies and accuracy for payment as opposed to the RUG-III and RUG-IV systems, and also provides insight into payment and quality alignment as well as medical review and data monitoring. This presentation, in conjunction with the information from the Section GG and Sections A, I, J and O will prepare you for participating in the Integrated Coding and PDPM Case Study which concludes Day 2.

Integrated Coding and PDPM Case Study

Conclude the training with John Kane from CMS and Jennifer Pettis from Econometrica, as they engage participants in a detailed case study focusing on a fictitious resident using select material covered over the 2-day training. Using specific elements from both the Admission and Discharge assessment, the case study will allow participants to apply coding and guidance learned during the training and learn how to use this information to determine a final HIPPS Code for the resident introduced in the case study.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.I'm attending online. Can I still receive a certificate of completion?

A.Yes, you can! For attendees who participate in at least 80% of all Slido polls throughout the conference, we email certificates of completion following the event. Be sure to complete your Slido user profile in order to qualify.

Q.Why don't the Slido questions match what I'm seeing on YouTube?

A.You may need to refresh your YouTube browser window. Many users find that the longer a YouTube live stream is open, the more it starts to lag over time. Refreshing the browser should fix the issue.

Q.The Slido app is stuck. What should I do?

A.If Slido seems to be stuck or not working properly, please try to refresh your browser window.

Q.I don't see my initials in the top-right of the Slido webapp. What do I do?

A.It looks like Slido doesn't know who you are. Click on the avatar icon and update all of your user information. Be sure it is accurate, because this is the only way we can grant you a Certificate of Completion at the end of the event.

Q.Why are these presentations missing the correct answers to questions?

A.There are two versions of each presentation: A pre-training version available prior to the event, and a post-training version we will make available from the QRP Training page following the conclusion of the event. To encourage full participation during the live event, only the post-training version of the presentation includes the correct answers.
